SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 22, 2007— Last week, WebEx (Nasdaq: WEBX), the leading provider of on-demand web collaboration applications, kicked off the WebEx Experience Online Forum, an interactive online conference that continues this week. WebEx saved an estimated 1,035,384 pounds of carbon dioxide by not requiring the more than 650 attendees to travel to participate in sessions. To calculate the savings, the company used demographic data from previous conferences, unique attendee figures and emissions estimates from the company’s carbon calculator and Carbonfund.org.
“These days, good business practices need to be profitable and sustainable. WebEx helps companies improve their reach, lower the cost of doing business and reduce the carbon dioxide emissions that lead to global warming,” said Rick Faulk, chief marketing officer, WebEx. “If just 0.1 percent of the meetings held on WebEx replaced a long haul flight, our services would save nearly 60 tons of CO2 from being emitted every day.”
As part of its WebEx for Clean Air program, WebEx offers a “Plant-a-Tree with WebEx” campaign, an easy way to experience the business productivity benefits of web meetings while helping offset carbon dioxide emissions. Users simply go to www.webex.com/go/zerocarbon sign up for the special WebEx Meeting Center free trial, hold two business meetings and WebEx will plant a tree in their name through Carbonfund.org.
The 2007 WebEx Experience Online Forum began last Tuesday, May 15th and continues through Thursday, May 24th. To register for this week’s sessions visit www.webex.com/experience.
